Let’s take a look at the relationships between women and men in the movies, where they seem to get along as well or as badly as they do in reality. After the first class, members will be asked to watch one full-length film outside of the class, which we will then discuss at the next session. (Films will not be viewed in class). We focus our discussions on what the film means to each of us, as well as what we bring to the film – how our personalities and experiences shape our responses to the film. This selection of movies represents a variety of time periods and cultures: Canadian, British, Swedish, American and Japanese. These are films that participants may never have seen or may not have seen in a long time. Many libraries offer free streaming services, but no single streaming service carries all of the films; participants may at times have to pay a fee for rental.
