Romanticism in Art

In-Person Class | Registration opens 2/17/2026 6:00 AM EST

Romanticism was a global art movement in reaction to a changing world. The painters were passionate, emotional and nostalgic for the past. Their inspiration was the power and beauty of nature plus the stories of chivalry from the Middle Ages. Each week we examine different groups of artists, focusing on palette, narrative, technique, inspiration and influence. European Romantic art within each country is specific to the artist, such as Goya, Friderich, Delacroix, Turner, Constable, Fuseli and Bierstadt. Learn how to distinguish each group of artists, and gain a greater understanding of the Romantic movement.  Includes previously covered materials.
