Now considered to be some of the greatest examples of American folk art, the quilts produced by the descendants of slaves known as the Gee’s Bend Quilters were discovered by art historian Bill Arnett. This class will cover the history of Gee’s Bend, the story of the quilters, and their journey from obscurity to artistic recognition. The quilters of Gee’s Bend dealt with racism, discrimination, poverty, and isolation. They never realized they were creating ART! Their journey is an incredible story.

Lynn Aleman
Lynn Aleman has been quilting for over 30 years. A lifelong Michigander and retired CPA, Aleman stays active doing volunteer work and pursuing her passion of quilting. On her quilting journey, she saw several Gee’s Bend Quilts in multiple venues. In awe of their work, Aleman was inspired to research and learn more about The Gee’s Bend quilters.
