The great Israeli-American historian of the Holocaust, Omer Bartov, said in the New York Times on November 10, 2023 that Israel was in danger of committing genocide in Gaza. By July 2025 Bartov concluded in the Times that the worst was happening: “I’m a Genocide Scholar. I Know It When I See It.” Bartov became one of the most famous - and controversial - voices worldwide commenting on the Gaza war. This class will critically discuss Bartov’s and the public’s discussion of these issues focusing on his new book: Israel: What Went Wrong?.
