This class explores how the gastrointestinal (GI) tract changes with age and the diseases that become more prevalent. This includes examining physiological shifts and higher incidence of GERD and constipation. It outlines lifestyle changes, clinical management, and evidence-based screening guidelines for age-related digestive conditions. We will also discuss colonoscopy guidelines as well as risk and benefit of procedures in older patients.

Sarah Russell
Dr. Sarah Russell, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist in Detroit, Michigan. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Michigan as well as a Master of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Michigan. Russell earned her medical degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine, where she graduated with honors. She completed Internal Medicine training at Indiana University where she served as a Chief Resident and went on to complete a fellowship in Gastroenterology at Henry Ford Health in Detroit.
