For decades, evaluating a traumatic brain injury (TBI) meant waiting for a CT scan and watching for symptoms to unfold. That is beginning to change. In this presentation, Korley explores how a simple blood test can now help doctors detect brain injury, track how well a patient is responding to treatment, and even predict who is likely to recover well and who may need closer care. Drawing on his work as an emergency physician and researcher, Korley explains this emerging science in plain language and looks ahead to what it means for patients and families.

Dr. Frederick Korley is a Professor and the Associate Chair for Research in Emergency Medicine at the University of Michigan. He is also the scientific director of the Massey TBI Grand Challenge, sponsored by the Weil Institute at the University of Michigan. Korley leads groundbreaking work in traumatic brain injury and was part of the team that developed a blood test capable of detecting TBI — a major advancement with significant potential to transform care worldwide.
