Examine the evolution of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East since 1945, including its relationships with Israel, the Palestinians, Arab states, Iran, and Pakistan. The class explores regional conflicts, Cold War and post-Cold War influences, terrorism, and the lasting impact of the September 11th attacks. Participants will also discuss the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack, Israel’s military response, changing perspectives on a two-state solution, Iran’s nuclear program, and the role of Iranian-backed proxy groups in regional security and international affairs.

Frank Richter
Dr. Frank Richter holds a Ph.D. in political science and completed his academic training at Oakland University, Wayne State University, and the University of Michigan. He taught international politics at Wayne State University and served as a political writer for Ross Perot. Richter had been a global analyst for NBC News during the 1990–91 Gulf War, 9/11 attacks, 2003 Iraq invasion, and 1993 Oslo Accords. He has provided over 100 TV interviews and been published approximately 100 times by the NY Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and various other publications.
