The impact of Alden B. Dow, Michigan’s Architect Laureate, can be seen in Michigan and beyond. Dow is the architect who would introduce Modernism to East Lansing, Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo, Bloomfield Hills, Petoskey, and other cities in Michigan. Throughout his career he created over 600 structures including the entire city of Lake Jackson, Texas. As important as his own work is, his influence on dozens of younger architects is visible in Midland with over 400 one-of-a-kind Mid-Century Modern structures built between 1930-1970 making it “The Mid-Century Modern City of America.”
