Parallel Mothers - Directed by Pedro Almodovar (2022, 120 minutes)
The film centers on photographer Janis (Penelope Cruz)?and Ana (Milena Smit)?who both give birth on the same day in a hospital where a caring bond forms between the women.? For observational purposes, the babies are kept in the neonatal unit.? Slowly emerging, Janis and lover, anthropologist Arturo begin to question her daughter's biological heritage.? As the film explores their evolving relationships with their children, it engages Spain's unresolved history, particularly the painful legacy of the Spanish Civil War (1936 - 1939)?and the search for missing bodies in a certain mass grave.

mark wenzel has been in the Wayne State University Philosophy Department since 1998 and holds classes in Global Ethics, Contemporary Moral Issues, Feminist Philosophy, Philosophy of Arts and developed a course in Classical Indian Philosophy for Fall 2023. wenzel has held classes (twice) in Feminist Philosophy at the Huron Valley Women's Prison and is currently part of a WSU group working to begin a College in Prison Program at Macomb Correctional Facility.
