Johnny Mercer was one of the most renowned lyricists of all time. After an introduction to Mercer and a review of his life, through slides and videos we will listen to songs that he wrote in collaboration with a variety of composers. For example, we'll hear Lazy Bones written with Hoagy Carmichael, I Thought About You written with Jimmy Van Heusen, Laura written with David Raskin, and Charade written with Henry Mancini, and many others. Mercer's music has been performed by countless artists all over the world.

In 2007, as an outreach of the Michigan Jazz Record Collectors (MJRC), Stu Johnson began and continues to lecture on jazz and jazz-related topics at numerous locations throughout the Metro Detroit area including libraries, the Adult Learning Institute, the Music Theatre class at U of D-Mercy, SOAR LLI, MORE Macomb, other senior groups and organizations, and at a convention of the International Association of Jazz Record Collectors.
