Conversations around facing end-of-life are exceptionally difficult for patients and their families. They are so often filled with emotion, anxiety and sometimes regret. This class will explore many of the options available in approaching end of life, including the decision to opt for palliative and hospice care. Topics will be presented, and questions will be encouraged.

Joseph Krakoff

Rabbi Joseph H. Krakoff is the President and CEO of the Jewish Hospice and Chaplaincy Network (JHCN). Serving the metro Detroit community since 1998, Rabbi Krakoff offers spiritual care and emotional support daily to individuals diagnosed with life-limiting and terminal illnesses. Krakoff is the author of Never Long Enough: Finding Comfort and Hope Amidst Grief and Loss and the forthcoming book that will be released in Spring 2026, The Best Day.

Mark Christopher Navin, PhD, HEC-C, is Professor and Chair of Philosophy at Oakland University (OU-Rochester, MI), Lecturer at OU William Beaumont School of Medicine, and Clinical Ethicist at Corewell Health. His research is primarily in clinical ethics and public health ethics. His books include Values and Vaccine Refusal: Hard Questions in Ethics, Epistemology and Health Care (Routledge, 2016) and, with Katie Attwell, America's New Vaccine Wars: California and the Politics of Mandates (Oxford University Press, 2023).
