F2527 United States Entry onto the World Stage During World War I

Class | Registration opens Monday, September 15, 2025 10:00 AM EDT

As World War I began, the United States was committed to neutrality. In fact President Wilson had said that Americans must be neutral in both deeds and thoughts. However in 1917, the United States declared war on the Central Powers consisting primarily of Germany, Austria-Hungry, and the Ottoman Empire with wide public support.
What had happened between 1914 and 1917 to change a country that had always tried to avoid European wars, into one that felt compelled to enter the most destructive war in world history up to that point? What was the new world that the Allied Powers created at the end of the conflict that only lasted until 1939. And what were the perceived errors made after World War I that the Allied leaders were determined not to repeat after World War II?
