Too often the media, and especially the U.S. government and American society, ignore Africa except for bloody encounters and severe natural disasters. Yet African nations have slowly and deliberately emerged from the shackles of imperialism to join the global community and economy. For example, much of the continent has enjoyed close to 4% annual increases in their GDP. Tourism and energy production continue to expand. Yet violence mars large sections like Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Join us for a balanced and insightful look at modern Africa, its global role, and the stories beyond the headlines.

Thomas Sosnowski
Dr. Thomas C. Sosnowski is a native of Detroit with a B.A. from the University of Detroit and Ph.D. from Kent State University. Sosnowski taught at KSU’s Stark Campus in Canton, Ohio for 41 years. He studied French at Quebec’s Laval University and has traveled extensively. Sosnowski’s primary research has been on 17th and 18th century French history. Dr. Sosnowski was honored by Kent State with its Distinguished Teaching Award. |
