Join Mr. Brown for an insightful exploration of Michigan’s diverse local government structures. This class will cover the various forms of municipalities—counties, cities, villages, townships—as well as public school districts and charter schools. Through interactive discussions and live online data, participants will compare how different entities manage and spend public tax dollars. Visual aids and peer comparisons will provide a clear understanding of local governance, and attendees will have the chance to request data for specific municipalities or school districts of interest. Buzz Brown
Richard “Buzz” Brown has been in the data visionary business since the 1970’s. Brown first served in various roles with Inacomp Computer Centers of Troy, MI. He later co-founded Munetrix, an online data aggregator of public sector data. Brown served on SEMCOG’s local government efficiency team following the 2010 subprime mortgage crisis that affected taxable values and public sector funding.
