This class, delves into the collaborative process behind creating Contemporary Anishinaabe Art: A Continuation, an exhibition celebrating the work of over 60 US-based Anishinaabe artists. The exhibit includes more than 90 pieces from various mediums—ranging from basketry and beadwork to painting, sculpture, graphic design, and film. Participants will explore the diverse histories and perspectives of Anishinaabe artists by discussing their artworks. Join us for a deeper understanding of Anishinaabe art and the creative forces shaping it today.

Denene De Quintal
Dr. Denene De Quintal is Assistant Curator for Native American art at Detroit Institute of Arts, where she is reengaging the Native American, Indigenous, and Detroit communities with the Indigenous Americas Art collection, strategically acquiring contemporary and historical art, addressing Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) concerns, and enacting best practices for the display of Native American art.
