S2508 The Disappearing Separation of Church and State
Class | Registration opens Monday, March 10, 2025 10:00 AM EST
While the American population has become more secular, in the last 7 years the law has increasingly privileged religion. In the name of religious freedom, courts have approved government funding for religious institutions, religious exemptions from health regulations, religiously based LGBTQ+ discrimination, and high school football coaches demonstrably praying on the 50-yard line. Some states are reintroducing the 10 Commandments and Bibles into public schools, and authorizing appointment of school chaplains. Notions of Christian nationalism are reappearing. The course will examine these legal developments and survey likely future trends.
