The Dust Bowl of the 1930s is among the most significant economic, social, and environmental disasters in U.S. history. This class will examine the combination of environmental, economic, and agricultural factors that contributed to the Dust Bowl. It will also explore how the plight of Oklahomans came to epitomize the disaster in popular culture and memory.
Matthew Pearce
Dr. Matthew Pearce is State Historian for the Oklahoma Historical Society. He received a Ph.D. in History from the University of Oklahoma in 2014. His research specialties include American environmental history, the history of the American West, Oklahoma history, and historic preservation.
