This fun lecture covers an overview of films shot or containing scenes on the famed Route 66, from John Ford's Grapes of Wrath, through Easy Rider, to more recent films including 2010s Beneath the Dark. The class will explore uniquely American landscapes and themes associated with this iconic highway: personal freedom, the counterculture and small-town life. Locations along Route 66 have inspired films in every genre: drama, comedy, suspense and even science fiction.
