This presentation will provide a brief overview of the process of creating effective costumes for theatrical productions. It will include discussing the design and rendering process as well as many of the pragmatic aspects of realizing the designs. It will explore many of the various aspects of the requirements of a production and the collaborative process of working with directors, choreographers, other designers, and the actors themselves. Numerous renderings will be shown to illustrate the various styles of many productions over the years.

Copenhagen, Mary

Mary Copenhagen has been on the theatre faculty of Wayne State University for the past 35 years. She teaches costume design and construction, theatrical makeup, and puppetry. Not only has Copenhagen designed numerous productions at WSU, but she has also designed costumes for many professional, regional theatres in the area such as Meadowbrook Theatre, Purple Rose Theatre, Detroit Repertory Theatre, Jewish Ensemble Theatre, and Plowshares Theatre, to name a few.
