Akira Kurosawa's film Rashomon (Japan, 1950) is widely regarded as one of a handful of the very greatest films ever made. What makes it great is more (much more) than its brilliant cinematic techniques: its theme has an arrestingly original view of human perspectives. The class will view the film (about 1-1/2 hours) and then discuss it.

Brian Murphy is a retired Professor of English and Honors College director at Oakland University. As a former film critic (for London’s FILMS AND FILMING) he helped to create Oakland University’s film program. He is the author of two books, “The Enigma Variations” and a study of CS Lewis, and several plays produced by New York’s Medicine Show Theater.
