This class will explore the history of women in film, from Alice Guy to Greta Gerwig. The surprising number of women working in the film business at its very beginning will be examined along with the rise of the studio system and its subsequent curtailing of opportunities for women. In addition the slow but sure rise of women in film – as producers, performers, writers, and directors will be looked at.

Aida Muñoz is a professional actor and filmmaker who runs The Actor's Workshop, an acting and filmmaking studio in Madison Heights. She is a long-time member of SAG-AFTRA and has worked in numerous films and stage productions including Ides of March with George Clooney, Batman vs. Superman with Henry Cavill, and the Comedy Central show Detroiters with Tim Meadows.
