Irving Goldberg thought his son, Frank, was a dreamer who would never amount to anything. Grandma Leah Caplan sat on the floor with Frank to build imaginary houses and futuristic cities out of wood scraps from Grandpa Caplan's hardware store. Frank Gehry’s architecture was first noticed upon the building of his own house in a Los Angeles suburb using corrugated metal and chain link fencing.
