From Ideas to Impact: How Research Gets Out of the Lab and Into Our Lives

Science Pub | Registration opens 10/28/2026 7:00 AM EDT

How does university research impact our lives? Are all those academic researchers just studying abstract ideas at taxpayer expense? If one of them has an idea that has practical use, how does it get from the lab to us? If you have taken warfarin or had a COVID vaccine, if you use Google or have taken a picture with your cell phone, you are benefitting from federally-funded research. And some of it was generated at Dartmouth and DHMC! Join us to learn how research is translated from ideas to everyday products. Meet Kim Rosenfield, Director of Technology Transfer at Dartmouth and DHMC, to hear about the process for transferring research results into practical solutions, and some groundbreaking inventions seeded in our own backyard.

  • As always, doors open in Galligan's Pub at 5 PM for those who would like to purchase food and/or drink ahead of the talk, which begins at 6 PM.
