Gouache Color Study: Mixing the Rainbow with a Limited Palette with Juliana Netschert

This condensed class (4 weeks) is an in-depth exploration of color techniques and relationships using gouache.
Monochromatic and analogous colors will be arrived at through mixing broader colors. This class is important for the technical growth of students who want a deeper understanding of color and gouache.
Your instructor has provided a list of materials required to participate fully in this class.

Materials: Tubes of gouache
6 Colors
Lemon yellow ( PY3 ), cadmium yellow medium ( PY53 ),
ultramarine blue ( PB29 ), cerulean blue ( PB 36 ),
magenta or quinacridone red violet ( PR122 ), cadmium red medium ( PR254 ).
- Black gouache or India Ink
(Note: paint names do not always differentiate differences needed for full spectrum so pigment numbers on tubes in small print assure color difference – for example pigment yellow ( PY3 ) will be the cool or lemon yellow. )
Mixing palette – plastic with many wells, approx. 10 x 11 inches
- 70lb cold press watercolor paper, 9 x 12 tablet recommended
- Watercolor brushes
- Several water containers, masking tape, paper towels, drawing board to tape paper to.

Materials for cleaning brushes and PPE are the responsibility of the student.
Such items may include but are not limited to:
Shop towels for painting & cleanup
Safflower oil (for oil paint cleanup)
dish/brush soap
Glass containers for oil & solvent storage as well as brush cleaning
Aprons
Gloves
dustmasks /n95 masks
Eye protection
WSS provides a small amount of shared cleanup items for the Painting Room- 3A but it is much more efficient to bring and use you own.
