IP Law & the Visual Artist with Rachael Bohlander
Workshop | Available
IP - Intellectual Property law - include Copyright, Trademark, Moral Rights and Publicity Rights.
Visual artists have important rights under these laws and also face challenges ensuring that their work remains protected and does not violate the rights of others.
This workshop introduces artists to the four areas of IP law, from where these law originated, who they are designed to protect, and what purposes the laws serve in the art economy and the larger social and economic systems in the U.S.
This course will help provide artists with the knowledge and tools they need to navigate these laws and ensure that they and their work are protected, whether through the creation of their work, when dealing with gallery contracts and licensing, protecting their art after it is sold and what recourses they may have should a violation occur.

This is a lecture class on Intellectual Property and the rights/challenges this area of law presents to visual artists. The workshop is not specifically about how to secure a trademark or apply for a copyright for an individual work (different subjects), though the workshop will cover the very basics about how trademarks and copyrights originate and why they are important.
