The Human Form C: Figure in Space with Samantha Stover
Class | Registration opens 3/2/2026 12:00 AM EST
This course concentrates on the compositional structure of an artwork as it relates to and includes the human figure. In class we will analyze how artists have visualized different spaces (and places) with a variety of techniques from representation through abstraction. Students will gain an understanding of the importance of the placement of the human subject relative to the broader layout of colors, shapes, textures, perspective and, perhaps most importantly, the meaning or message of the entire image.
We will realize our artistic visions with the help and creativity of life models, props and backgrounds. A combination of short gestural poses and longer studies (draped and undraped) will be included.
Who is this class for? While students new to drawing the human figure are welcome, this class is for students with some prior drawing experience and does not serve as an introduction to drawing.
