Advanced Painting: Deconstructing Realism with Carol Rubin
Class | Registration opens 11/19/2025 12:00 AM EST
This advanced painting class is for students who have developed solid skills working with paint and wish to push their practice toward exploring a personal vision. Students will start from classic spacial representation and go beyond to delve into personal perception of the environment. They will rely on tenants of abstraction as tools for discovering, mining and communicating personal perception and emotional experience. Students will be encouraged to push past their usual end point to experience the result of more creative use of paint and careful observation.
We will work on several long-term projects designed to allow plenty of time for development and exploration. Small class size will allow for individual attention, to meet students where they are in their art practice and enable students to sharpen their skills as needed.
Students are expected to bring materials and colors suggested in the materials list but to augment that with other colors and implements they personally enjoy using.

Your instructor has provided a list of materials required to participate fully in this class.
If you have any questions about specifics or what is needed week-to-week, please reach out to your instructor via the email in your confirmation letter.
The following are basic colors recommended to bring for the class. You may bring additional colors you are used to using to augment this list but try to keep it simple. It is a good idea to have a large tube of white, if not all large tubes, depending on how you use paint. If you are using small amounts of paint you may want to use larger quantities for this class.
