Advanced Painting: Savvy Use of Color with Carol Rubin

Class | Available

This advanced painting class is for those who have developed a competency with painting including use of color, value, drawing, and composition.  We will take off from there, pushing your practice in a direction that reflects who you are as an artist and what you want to say.  You will work to find your voice, to paint your own perception of a variety of classic as well as original stimuli while reinforcing a strong grounding in elements of visual communication.

This semester, we will be taking a closer look at the components of color and their ability to communicate. Where do you naturally hang out within the color spectrum, how do you push those colors to resonate, and what may you be missing out on?  Within that arena we will also consider gestural mark making, developing space and other advanced concepts, depending on the needs of the group.  We will work on projects lasting multiple weeks to allow students to thoroughly develop their work through layering, shifting and editing and reconsidering.

  • WSS is closed the week of Thanksgiving, all classes will conclude the first week of December.
