Embodiment and Containment: Casting in Cement with Lauren Crawford
Class | Currently Unavailable
Students will explore the relationship between the body and boundaries through mold-making techniques and casting in cement. We’ll consider casting as a form of personal archaeology—capturing traces of impermanence, labor, and identity through body casting using waste mold techniques. The second project introduces urethane mold construction to create a cast cement frame, shifting the focus toward repetition, containment, and mechanical labor. Through hands-on making and critical discussion, we will examine how cement holds both gesture and structure, exploring embodiment, permanence, and bodily memory.
WSS cannot store casting cement/concrete, students must arrange their own transportation and plan accordingly.
WSS is closed the week of Thanksgiving, all classes will conclude the first week of December.
