Class | Currently Unavailable
Picasso’s Guernica, painted in 1937, is widely recognized as one of the most important anti-war paintings in history, and has been used repeatedly around the world as an image of resistance since its making. In this class, we will dissect the context, preparatory sketches and process of the making of this powerful work as a structure for creating new works responding to current events. This intermediate/advanced course will provide strategies for research, building resource materials and an expanded image vocabulary as you develop your own voice in responding visually to issues important to you.
The first half of the term will utilize drawing and collage with a series of studies before expanding into larger scale mixed media projects.
This course is for students who have completed introductory drawing & painting classes and have a proficient understanding of composition, drawing & painting.
