Portraits in Oil with Paul Pietsch
Short Class | Available
Designed for students with previous oil-painting experience, this six-week course will explore portrait painting as a responsive act of perception, prioritizing expression over mimesis. Working from figure models, students will paint six portraits in six weeks. They will learn through guided instruction, self-exploration, and individual and group critiques, focusing on big color shapes and the relationships between them, decisive brushstrokes and quieting the impulse for perfection. A limited palette is sufficient, but students may use additional colors as they wish.
- It is ok to get the “hue” versions of the colors—they are cheaper because they contain less pigment but will work fine for the course. have less pigment and are cheaper.
- Don’t get “water mixable” oil paint as it won’t mix with normal oil paint.
Materials List - These are the materials you will need to bring with you for this class.
