(Online) Drawings the Figure with Martin Campos

This class will focus on combining the elements of figure construction, with a strong focus on the importance of gesture and movement. Inert bodily forms will be brought to life to create active and expressive figurative work that will be a springboard for further evolution in student work.


Each class will consist of fast-paced figure drawings, culminating in solid finished pieces. Simple tools such as charcoal and pastel will be utilized to follow the speed and energy of the figure.




  • Materials List - These are the materials you will need for this class.

    Charcoals 

    • Nitram brand willow charcoal (extra soft yellow box)

    • Generals extra soft charcoal.

    • Compressed charcoal. (Your brand of choice)

    Tools to manipulate your surface.

    • Chamois cloth

    • Palette knives

    • Printmaking brayers. (Speedball - get the softest textured roller of their line)

    Papers

    • Hahnemuhle Ingres charcoal and pastel papers

    • Rives rfk Printmaking paper. (Any printmaking paper with rag content will do.)

    Pastels - Martin is not strict on a specific palette but requests that students start with fleshy tones.

    • Sennelier soft demisticks

    • Prismacolor Nupastels

    • Terry Ludwig pastels

    Misc. items

    • Bulldog clips
    • Hard drawing board
    • Kneaded gum erasers

    Fixatives 

    • Any worktable fixative but make sure it's not glossy.

    • Final fixative of good quality.  Martin uses the Sennelier pastel final fix.
