This course explores soft sculpture to examine and challenge ideas of space, boundaries, and
social constructs. Through hands-on projects, students will investigate the interplay between
public and private spheres, psychological and physical borders, and craft as high art. Students
will develop technical skills in pattern construction, sewing, embroidery, felting, and weaving,
both fabric and non-traditional materials to create textile works. Studio demonstrations and visits
to second-hand stores will encourage resourcefulness and material sensitivity, supporting
students in creating mixed media installations and sculptures.
Who This Class Is For:
Recommended for artists interested in expanding their approach to three-dimensional form
through soft materials, textile-based processes, and experimental sculpture techniques.
