This is an introductory course designed for beginners who have had no prior experience with drawing. Basic drawing vocabulary and use of materials will be introduced. There will be a range of exercises in this class and each of them will have its own place in the building of skills which will arm the students with the necessary knowledge to take drawing a step further and make it more personal. Process as a means not to an end but as an end itself will be a basis by which this class is taught.Individual as well as group critiques and discussions will be conducted. By the end of this class, students should be able to have an expanded drawing vocabulary and strong technical ability which would enable them to proceed to the next level of drawing (Introduction to Drawing B).
INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING BASIC SUPPLY LIST for the Washington Studio School:
Pencils: HB, 2B, 4B, 6B (optional: F, 8B)
Eraser: Tri-tip white triangular eraser; Staedler Eraser, kneaded eraser
Blick Willow charcoal (small box)
Blick studio square charcoal sticks (or other soft compressed charcoal)
General’s hard compressed charcoal sticks
Charcoal Pencils (General’s kit of 5)
Artist tape or masking tape
