Linoleum-Block Printing II with Chinedu Osuchukwu

This class, designed for students at all levels, explores the impact of contrast in a thoughtful composition, achieved through the carving process. Students will learn the basics of linoleum block printing, which includes carving linoleum blocks, inking them, and printing them. In addition, students will learn carving-specific techniques like cross-hatching, stippling, and line variation. Students can expect to work on several pieces throughout the duration of this ten-week class.
This class will utilize hand printing methods using a baren. (rather than the press)
- Please note: class will be starting on 4/16 and run through 6/18
To accommodate the larger class size, this printmaking class will utilize both of the 3rd-floor classroom spaces.
Materials List - These are the materials you will need for this class.
Students are responsible for acquiring these supplies for personal use. Most tool items WSS will have a classroom or demo kit set of but not enough for every student to use simultaneously.
Your instructor will provide further guidance on specific brands and types as needed:
- Linocut block 9x10" or 8x12"
- Block Stamp Carving Blocks 9x10" or 8x12"
- Sketchbook

- Printmaking Paper - any printmaking paper, WSS offers 22” by 30” rag paper available for students to purchase at cost - $8 a sheet

- Water Soluble printing inks - WSS will provide basic colors; additional colors may be brought in by students. Speedball offers an affordable option
