Intermediate Painting: The Grid with Marie Gauthiez

Class | Available

This intermediate-level painting class is an exploration of the grid. The grid is an element that can be easily deployed and understood in both figurative and abstract works. As a structure, the grid has been used front stage throughout the ages, or has acted as a hidden device. system for generating variations. Students will engage in experimentations around the works of artists, past and present and develop works to understand the grounding and generative power of the grid. They will also ask how the disruption and deconstruction of the grid can create meaning and address human experiences. A mixed media approach will be highly encouraged as well as sourcing materials to be upcycled. Painting in oil is welcome, but water-based media will bring more flexibility to the works. Readings, visual research and discussions will come to reinforce our grasp of the meaning of grid.
