How to Add Video Screens to Your Artwork with Chris Combs
Short Class | Available
You've got the footage. You've got the vision. Now how the heck do you add a video screen into an artwork? In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to build a silent, small video screen (4" diagonal) that automatically plays your video, looping forever, using a low-power "Raspberry Pi" computer. Then you'll find out how to cleanly install it into a sculpture, panel, or canvas.
You will learn:
- How to create a "Video Looper" device using a Raspberry Pi computer and a 4" LCD screen
- How to cleanly install it in an artwork
- Best practices for powering and hanging the artwork
- What types of videos work best and how to convert them
- How to connect the Video Looper to other displays
** Class requirements: Bring your own laptop; you should be comfortable copying MP4, MOV, or AVI files to USB thumb drives, and making simple changes with a text editor such as TextEdit or Notepad.
While this class is for students of all levels, it is conceptually an intermediate-level class. Instruction will focus on the process of setting up and utilizing electronic components in your work rather than foundational painting skills.
