E-F2 Spanish for Advanced Beginners

8 Week Class | Registration opens Saturday, August 1, 2026 12:00 AM

Would you like to refresh and improve your Spanish so you can converse with hired help, enrich your travel experiences, and volunteer to help immigrants? This is a course for someone who has studied Spanish and remembers the very basics but may have forgotten all the details.  Though some knowledge of grammar is essential for learning any language, this curse will have a conversational approach.  I will provide handouts of verb tenses and vocabulary for those who want to study or use them as reference guides or “cheat sheets” during class.  Though not required, for best results, students should be willing to spend 20-30 minutes a day reviewing at home.  Class activities will be varied and casual, and both guided by the instructor and driven by class interest.

Claudia Battaglia

Claudia Battaglia’s mother was born in France and spoke French to her when she was a child, which both piqued her interest in foreign languages and helped Spanish come easily to her.  Four years of high school Spanish gave me an excellent grammatical background, but like most people, she could read and write well, but not speak fluently.  But numerous visits to Mexico and numerous Spanish-speaking friends over the years gave her extensive opportunities to practice, and eventually became fluent. Recently She studied Arabic, so the frustrations of trying to learn a language are fresh in her memory! In the past, she has taught Spanish in the SUNY Language Immersion program, and as an adjunct at SUNY, translated a web site for Jen Metzger, and presently, she works as an interpreter for Ulster Immigrant Defense Network. (UIDN).
