C-W5 Beginning American Sign Language (ASL) Level 1
8 Week Class | Registration opens Saturday, August 1, 2026 12:00 AM
This class will be an introduction to the manual alphabet, the five parameters of ASL (which are necessary to the ASL grammar structure and the learning of the proper execution of the language), and a minimum of 500 basic and commonly used vocabulary words. The class will also cover a brief and engaging history of ASL, along with interesting facts about the language. If time allows, the class may also include an introduction of “classifiers” used in ASL conversation and an integral part of the ASL language structure
Stacey A. DeLaney
Stacey A. DeLaney is a retired career educator with a continued passion for teaching and learning. The first half of her career she was a teacher of the Deaf in the Capital District area. The second half of her career she was an assistant principal at a career and technical school then a high school principal for many years when she retired from public education. She has taught ASL and education classes at several colleges in the Capital District area. She has authored three children’s books with the fourth one in the publishing process about her dog LayLa! Teaching ASL is indeed a language she especially loves to teach to enhance communication between the hearing and deaf world.
