NOTE FOR ALL IAPS WORKSHOPS: You must bring your own portable easel, and a board to support your paper. The room will be set with chairs which can be moved around to suit your preference. You can stand at an easel and use the table for your supplies, or you can bring a table easel and sit to work. Rubbing Alcohol will be provided for the students' use.
IMPORTANT: Please bring a plastic or cloth sheet to place under your easel, or table, to protect the hotel's carpet.
Materials List
We will be exploring various products, techniques and tools to enhance your work. The demos will demonstrate the possibilities as a takeaway to further explore.We will paint
smaller works to exemplify the possibilities of utilizing texture to create visual interest.
Reference photos : small (4x6 example) color and black and white 3-5 SIMPLE landscape 3-5 big shapes -
PASTEL SUPPLIES: I use a variety of soft pastels, primarily Ludwigs, Sennelier, Schimke, Earthberry and Richesons. Select arrange of soft, medium and heart of pastels. I do include Giraults neutrals.
Harderpastels: NuPastel for initial block in:
244 Blue Violet,212 Deep Orange, 306 Orchid Pink, 254 Violet Hyacinthe or equivalent.
Surface: I am suggesting various smaller mounted substrates - I use a lot of 8x6 that I order UART Premium Mounted Boards at Dakota Pastels and their version on conservation board - I use the 4 ply and manipulate by adding products to the mounted boards. Also, I use UART 400 grit MOUNTED( 2-3) 9x12.
I will demo on various substrates including : Multimediaartboard Pink Label, gatorboard and I will have others for show and tell. Bring what you want to experiment on as long as it’s mounted. You can mount your own if it doesn’t buckle.
I use beige or white substrates especially with watercolor.
Supplies: Old oil brush about #6 , synthetic brush #6 for watercolor, small spray bottle,small palette knife, a few brushes :various small brushes to add products.
Plastic cooking bowl scraper, hair dryer, gesso clear and textured not white, soft pumice gel I use Golden,alcohol 91% if possible,red light acrylic (small amount) . Watercolor Ground QOR brand.Golden brand Pastel Ground .
Small watercolor set- I also like Payne’s gray and Burnt Sienna. Silicone painting brushes small-I like Outus brand .
Other supplies:backing board (gator foam board) paper towels, hand wipes, gloves if you use them, easel, mirror,
sketch book for the thumb nails. Optional- small painting you are not married to - not a masterpiece to explore works in rehab!
