Julie and Michael Freeman - Mastering Still Life in 3-D


In this captivating two-day workshop Julie and Michael will help you to create 3D depth, emotion, and narrative in a still life. They will share their knowledge, skills, materials, tricks and tips, and their love of detail. They will also explore how to develop your own unique artistic voice by using your camera as a creative tool. The aspects of consideration for setting up a still life, and guidance on establishing clear and achievable art goals will also be discussed.

  • NOTE FOR ALL IAPS WORKSHOPS: You must bring your own portable easel, and a board to support your paper. The room will be set with chairs which can be moved around to suit your preference. You can stand at an easel and use the table for your supplies, or you can bring a table easel and sit to work. Rubbing Alcohol will be provided for the students' use. 

    IMPORTANT:
     Please bring a plastic or cloth sheet to place under your easel, or table, to protect the hotel's carpet.


    Suggested Materials:


    During the workshop Julie and Michael will be using the following Pastels Pencils and Soft Pastels:

    They will be supplying students with photographic reference material.

    Students attending the Julie and Michael’s Workshop should also bring the following:

          Bring own range of soft pastel sticks and pastel pencils (Optional)

          An Easel

           Any blending tools currently used

           1x backing board (to tape work to - preferably a landscape format. 12” x 20” approx)

           (Note: Exercise Images will be:  8 x 8.5 inches and 5.25 x 8 inches)

           Tape/Bulldog clips

           HB pencil or Embossing tool

           Graphite Transfer Paper

           Kneaded Eraser

           Pencil Sharpener or knife

           Any extra scrap pieces of pastelmat paper

           Pen and paper for notes
