Two-Day Workshop | FULL
Loriann Signori - It’s All About the Light
In this two-day workshop, Loriann will help you explore the ways of seeing light’s effect and compose it beautifully and honestly onto your surface. By confronting the needless projection of labels on the subject matter, you will learn to see what is actually there as colored forms in relationship with other colored forms. The veils of light, which make the air appear to breathe, is the end goal. Recognizing the jewel-like beauty that is air will help uncover a new reason for delight in painting.
NOTE FOR ALL IAPS WORKSHOPS: You must bring your own portable easel, and a board to support your paper. The room will be set with chairs which can be moved around to suit your preference. You can stand at an easel and use the table for your supplies, or you can bring a table easel and sit to work. Rubbing Alcohol will be provided for the students' use.
IMPORTANT: Please bring a plastic or cloth sheet to place under your easel, or table, to protect the hotel's carpet.
SUGGESTED MATERIALS LIST:
PASTELS: I use a variety of soft pastels, Girault, Townsend, Ludwig and Sennelier, plus some harder sticks such as Caran Dache. Use the pastels you like best, try to have a selection of soft, medium and hard pastels. Include one black soft pastel.
OTHER IMPORTANT SUPPLIES: watercolor- I love QoR (a good, inexpensive way to sample them-QoR Watercolor High Chroma Set of 6.) Also love Winsor Newton, Holbein and Daniel Smith. You need white designers gouache (Winsor Newton), scrubby brushes like chip brushes ½ inch,1 inch (hardware store,) clear gesso (Liquitex), Sennelier fixative (you can use Spectra fix also, different effects), black or white design tape (pretty please no colored tape). For less expensive option- oatmeal colored masking tape.
SURFACES: I prefer Uart 400 oatmeal colored- mounted is best, especially if using any wet materials (or it will buckle and drive you crazy). Your surface should be white or oatmeal- toned surfaces won’t work as well.
OTHER SUPPLIES: backing board (gator foam board,) paper towels,
sketch book for the thumb nails and note taking. Some reference photos that show magnificent light.
Optional- small paintings that trouble you…. We might get there.
