A musical theater class designed to teach acting, singing and dancing, along with character analysis and improvisation. The curriculum for Stage Struck will include an introduction to current and class musical theater repertory, including lessons on vocal technique and musical theater movement. The class will be working together on musical theater numbers, as well as solos and duos. Instruction will include feedback on performance and development in a positive and constructive manner, while also encouraging decision making and problem solving. Each semester will end in a recital performance for family and friends.

Stage Struck is taught in partnership with the off-Broadway theater company Ars Nova and teaching artist Michelle Rodriguez. Michelle is a singer, songwriter, teacher, and musical theater composer, currently at work on a new musical commissioned by the Public Theater.

  • If a class does not meet minimum enrollment requirements, GHMS will notify parents one week in advance of the beginning of class.

Teaching artist Michelle Rodriguez is a singer, songwriter and musical theater composer, currently at work on a new musical commissioned by The Public Theater. She has captivated audiences at Joe's Pub (NYC), the Hideout (Chicago), and Steppenwolf (Chicago) with her stunning vulnerability onstage. Beloved by NPR’s All Songs Considered team, Michelle became a finalist for NPR’s 2018 Tiny Desk Contest with her band MICHA’s song “Nena Nena Nena.” Michelle made her Steppenwolf début in La Havana Madrid and starred in her original bluegrass/folk musical, East o', West o'! at ANTFest at Ars Nova, which earned her a mention in The New Yorker. In 2018, Michelle’s work in theater and music is being supported by residencies at SPACE on Ryder Farm, New York Theater Workshop, and the University of Chicago. Other musicals include Rokera, Bibliophile, Betty White: The Musical!, JIRAN, and So Far Cecile. BA: Williams College.
