Granger, Julie

Julie Granger, a native of France, began studying ballet at age 7 under the direction of Annie Lillaz-Santacreux. She furthered her studies at the Conservatoire de Musique et de Danse de Melun, under the direction of Danielle Perez, and went on to study at the Institut International de Danse Janine Stanlowa in Paris. Under the direction of Evelyne Desutter, a former principal dancer with the Paris Opera and one of Rudolph Nureyev’s favorite partners, she learned the tradition of the French Academic Style. She learned the Bournonville style with Nelly Braida, which is the hallmark of the Royal Danish Ballet. There, she also studied anatomy and history of dance, two subjects she is truly passionate about. Julie then joined the Jeune Ballet de Paris, France’s premier Youth Company. Julie appeared in many creations there by Isabelle Stanlowa (“Tous en scene”…) and danced in some of France’s most prestigious theatres, such as the Palais des Congrès de Paris. While in Jeune Ballet, she also studied with Attilio Labis, Elisabeth Maurin, Monique Loudiere, and Christiane Vlassi, all former principals with the Paris Opera Ballet. In 2007, Julie moved to the United States to learn the American style. She trained with the Boston Ballet for 2 years, under the direction of Bonnie Mathis (ABT) and Parren Ballard (Houston Ballet), and performed in many ballets with the company, including The Nutcracker. Julie then went to train with the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago. Since then, Julie has performed on various occasions in France and the United States such as Dance Chance with Danceworks Chicago, The Nutcracker, and Sleeping Beauty. She has also modeled for numerous ballet catalogues and magazines, and was part of the photographic project "Danse a Paris".
